Hobbs Memorial Chapel entrance at Hobbs Park. Edward Dorsey Hobbs' estate, known as "Evergreen," was located at the corner of Evergreen Road and Osage Road in Anchorage, Kentucky, just east of the "Hobbs and Walker Evergreen Nursery." The brick Hobbs Memorial Chapel was built at "Evergreen" in 1897 for the Anchorage community; the chapel was accidently burned down in 1954, but the entrance of the chapel was preserved and dedicated as a park in 1960. Additional information from Nanine Hilliard Greene's family history book "'Evergreen,' 'The Other House,' Chapel, and Cemetery," Book 11, 1988, page 128: "Poor little chapel. It wasn't torn down by small vandals from the big city but accidently burned by good, reliable helper, Will Pierce, who was burning leaves. I'm sure he was filled with remorse that such an accident could have happened. At the time Mother [Nanine Sherley Irwin Hilliard] was terribly distressed that a place so entwined with family history and family celebrations would be so damaged that it couldn't be repaired...Leaving the doorway to the chapel as an entrance to a lovely little park met with her approval. In 1959 the Hobbs Park was dedicated. It is looked after by my long time friend Frances Caldwell and the Anchorage Garden Club. Weddings and other celebrations are held there and the trees and grass around it are ever green." Image used on page 129.
