Scales formed with a golden bow serving as the "arms" and a pierced heart as the fulcrum. Two containers of roses are balanced. The rest of the inscription reads, "with sunshine always in your heart / May every joy combine / To brighten all your future days, / My own dear valentine." Postmarked 1913 on verso. Unidentified man, perhaps a member of the Kerndt family, standing inside a wagon or truck scale on Kerndt Family & Merchants' property in Lansing, Iowa, probably around 1910. Kerndt Bros. store sign in the background advertises dry goods, groceries, carpets, and cloaks among other things. A small wagon is parked outside the scale area.
