The top left and bottom right of the shield contain three shells, while the top right and bottom left contain three flowers. Above the shield are a crown and knight's helmet. Above the helmet is an eagle on top of a prostrate bird [possibly heron, crane, or pelican]. On a decorative scroll above the eagle is the phrase "Ex Libris" and the word "Montrose" in quotations. On a scroll below the shield is the phrase "Reason contents me." The names "James Hiram & Mary Gloster Graham" are below the image. These elements are inside a decorate rectangular frame. Black ink. Signed Ainslie Hewett with two-digit year.
